Taiyaki - Chinatown Bakery - London Review

I saw these adorable little fish-shaped Taiyaki on my TikTok feed, and I knew I had to try them when we went to London. They were from Chinatown Bakery.

When we went the were 4 pieces for £3 but that was back in Jan of 2026 So im not sure of the price of them now.

In case you’ve never heard of Taiyaki, they’re a traditional Japanese dessert shaped like a red sea bream, symbolizing luck and prosperity. While the classic filling is usually sweet red bean paste, we tried the custard version, which has become a popular alternative. It was smooth and creamy, with a slight crisp to the waffle-like exterior.

Just beware that when they are first made, they are lava hot, so be careful when you bite into them.

The outside is a waffle like exterior which goes extremely well with the custard centre.

You actually dont even need to go inside the bakery to buy them they are sold out of a side window. But if you do happen to go in check out some of the other amazing pastries and food they have in there.

We ended up going back a few times and getting them because they were so good.

Next time we are back in London we will definitely be going back. I highly recommend them.

GETTING THERE

They were from Chinatown Bakery in London. 7-9 Newport Place (WC2H 7JR).

It's easier to get there by the tube:

Leicester Square station is the nearest tube stop, served by the Northern and Piccadilly lines. From there, it’s just a quick 2–3 minute walk to the bakery.

Piccadilly Circus Station is just a quick five-minute walk from the bakery.

Several buses pass a stop just a short distance from Chinatown, including routes 14, 24, 27, 29, 134, 168, and C2.

Well that's all I have for todays post. I hope you liked this food review. I have a lot more from my trip that I have still yet to post.

Have you tried these cute little custard fishes?

Now if only I can find a place in melbourne that sell these, that would be incredible.

Until next time xx
