My family and I have been to Sydney quite a few times over the years. We have picked up some fun facts over the years so I thought I would share some. 

1. Sydney has over 100 beaches.

2. Sydney officially became a city in 1842.

3. The Sydney mint which was built between 1811 and 1816 is the oldest public building in the Sydney CBD

4. The Strength of the Sydney Harbour Bridge was tested before opening day by placing 96 railway engines on the bridge.

5. The Harbour Bridge is known by the locals as the coat hanger due to its shape.

6. Sydney is the 12th most expensive city in the world. With Property prices among some of the globes highest.

7. The Australian museum in Sydney is Australia's oldest natural history museum which was opened in 1857.

8. The fish market in Sydney is the largest market of its kind in the Southern Hemisphere, and the worlds 3rd largest fish market.

9. George street is the oldest street in Australia

10. People who come from Sydney are called Sydneysiders.

11. The opera house hosts over 3000 shows per year

12. Sydney was in the guiness book of records for producing the longest line of pizzas. 

13. Many big film shoots have been filmed in Sydney. Some being The matrix series , and the great gatsby among others. 

14. 3.5 million international visitors visit Sydney each year

15. The smallest beach in Sydney is McKell Beach which is only accessible by boat at low tide

16. Arnold Schwarzenegger won his final Mr. Olympia bodybuilding title at the opera house in 1980

17. There are 658 suburbs in urban sydney.

18. Sydneys postcode is 2000 which is the same year it hosted the Olympics

19. Sydney is the largest city in Australia by population and size.

20. The sydney funnel web spider is one of the most dangerous spiders on earth.
